SYNOPSIS

THE FILMMAKER
A graduate of the National College of Arts, Faisal Qureshi made his mark as a comic actor on the cult TV skit show “VJ” in 1995. He has been working as an actor since. He is also a writer of scripts, jingles and advertising concepts. In 2001, he set up his own company – Game Over Productions – and produces and directs various programmes for television.

SYNOPSIS
“Appassionata” is inspired by a letter that a German Soldier, Anton, sent to his wife. The soldier is awaiting his doom in a pocket of Stalingrad, when he spots an undamaged piano in the no-man’s land between the war zones. A musician in his civilian life, Anton feels compelled to play the piano one last time. However, he is surprised by a Russian lone fighter.

THE FILMMAKER
Mirko studied visual communication in film/video from the University of Applied Sciences in Aachen. He has been the lead VFX artist in films like “Oliver Twist” (France), “Silence Becomes You” and “Cargo.” He has also been a script consultant on “Eichmann” and “Wortbrot.”

THE FILMMAKER
Theophilos Papastylianos was born in Montreal, Canada, in 1971. After graduating from the National Technical University of Athena, he specialised in Film Directing and Screenwriting at the Department of Communication Studies, Concordia University in Montreal.

THE FILMMAKER
After receiving an MA in Architecture Kereshmeh Afsari took several courses in scriptwriting and directing. Her first film as director was “A Shadow Above Tomorrow.” “Avayeh Mohoum” is Afsari’s third film as director. She has also written screenplays and worked as a cinematographer in two short films.

SYNOPSIS
“Babu” showcases the spectrum of human emotions. A poor newspaper hawker, Babu is impervious to his economic situation, much to the dismay of his father. All this changes when Babu falls in love with a girl at a bus stop. Thus begins Babu’s painful awakening, setting him off on a turbulent voyage. It is a journey where dreams and reality collide, filled with love, hope, tears and sacrifice.

“Big Band” is a journey into contemporary urban spaces that transports the audience from one place to the next and challenges them to create the relationship between the scenes. The film is a reflection on our society’s day to day paradoxes such as the transformation of our environment, the passing of time and urban chaos.

THE FILMMAKER
Daniel Calvo works as a music producer and sound designer in Caracas, Venezuela. Besides his activities in the Keloide design studio, he participates in the Babylon Motorhome collective and maintains the independent sampling project, Ortega&Cassette.

Set in both London and Beirut during Israel’s war on Lebanon, “Both” is ‘everybody’s’ story of war told through the experiences of one man. London is cosmopolitan, known for democracy and diversity; Beirut is associated with occupation, conquest and stories of endless war. “Both” is a message of hope, love and truth from the city of endless wars.

Coldness and daily routine will bring one couple together and tear another apart.

THE FILMMAKER
Juan Carlos Mostaza was born in Valladolid, Spain, in 1979. While in high school, he won the first prize in a European educational mulitmedia software competition. In 2002, Mostaza did his Masters in 3-D computer graphics, while continuing to work on 3-D projects and being selected as a finalist in several competitions around Europe. Currently he works at his company, LaCatedral Animation Studio, which develops visual effects for motion pictures and commercials.

SYNOPSIS
Eduardo and Elisabeth are a couple in crisis. Their only daughter, Silivia, is continuously having nightmares about an old woman. Sebas, their only remaining neighbour, is convinced that the building they live in is no longer safe because of structural deterioration. The plot moves towards a surprising ending.

THE FILMMAKER
David Canovas was born in Santa Cruz de la Palma in 1971. He graduated in Image Sciences from the University of Madrid. He is the director, editor, screenwriter and producer of twelve short films, including “Mate” (2002) and “No return address” (2004), winners of awards in Spain, and “The Intruder” (2005), which was nominated for the Spanish Academy Award in 2006, and won several awards in the Canary Islands.

SYNOPSIS
The film opens through a re-enactment of the burning of John Steinbeck’s ”Cannery Row” in front of a Corbusier house in Marseille. But then the book is rescued from its pyre and sent to Prague. The book is read by many people there and is accompanied by the narrator’s voice and the whispers of the Caryatids who try to leave their ancestral place.

THE FILMMAKER
Born in Munich in 1962, Andreas Wutz studied painting at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf and lives now in Barcelona. He has made 14 films since 1998, which have screened at festivals around the world including The IFF Rotterdam and ZIFF in Zimbabwe. He has been working as an assistant director of German radio plays since 2005.
